Contemporary African Art Collection by Jean Pigozzi
|Frédéric Bruly Bouabré c.1923-2014|
The Pigozzi Collection announces with deep sadness the death of Frédéric Bruly Bouabré. Bouabré passed away at his home in Abdijan, Ivory Coast on January 28th. He was 91. Bouabré was a unique artist from his generation and produced an unusally large body of written and pictoral work which includes his Connaissance du Monde series and Alphabet Bété, an alphabet of 448 monosyllabic pictograms. He invented the alpahabet in order to transcribe the oral tradition of his people, the Bétés.
